In old movies,books,etc.you always see scruffy cowboys shaving with a straight-razor but you never see an Indian with a moustache or beard!

It's a genetic trait. I'm over 1/4 Cherokee, %26amp; I go roughly 5 days between shaves. My uncle, who is over 1/2 Cherokee, takes months to grow a pencil-thin mustache. My late grandfather, a full-blood, would have probably needed a year to grow one, if he grew facial hair at all. Unfortunately, he died before I was born, so I'm guessing, but my mom can hardly remember him ever shaving.

Oh, as for mrcab13, lighten up! Yes, there are differences between races besides skin color, %26amp; noticing or asking about such differences doesn't make a person a racist. How else can we learn about one another? Too many people of limited intellect throw around the racist label indiscrimantly, lumping in nice people like this who are curious with people who are actually racist. it is genetics, if someone doesn't grow facial hair. Usually because somewhere in their genes, ancestors lived in the heat %26amp; didn't need it to warm them. Just like people who are really hairy, their ancestors were probably from a cold place.

I knew a man who was half Choctaw Indian, and he had only a few whiskers on his chin. And he only shaved about once a week. I ran into him again many years later, and he hadn't changed hardly at all. I think it's genetic. Part of their genome.

they are really a passive group. scalping never really happened it was a ploy for security and power. if you look closely at a scalp it really is just facial hair. but it worked somewhat!

Genetics, they really aren't that hairy either (so the movies were correct for once) my fiance isn't very hairy at all, only the top of his head and his chin and that's it. Hair won't grow anywhere else on him (thank goodness) and he's 1/4 native american.
